Edward Dodge-1203

Edward Dodge and his wife, her father, son of Richard Dodge, appear at Salem in 1638, asking for a location.
Edward Dodge's will was filed in probate in March, 1727, but was dated February 17, 1714. He mentions his daughter Mary Woodbury.

Retired as Sea Captain and moved from ME to MA in 1905 to become Administrator of Alms House, Norwell, MA.

Eudora Etta Brown was his second wife. He was first married at Harrington, 8 January 1866, to SARAH E. SMITH, b, 1840's. There are no known children from this marriage.


Thomas Tracy-1261

THOMAS TRACY, son of Sir Paul Tracy, Bart. of Stanway, County Gloucester, England, and Anne Sharkerly, was born about 1610 on the Tewksbury estates. In April 1636 he arrived at Salem, Mass. On the Salem records are these two entries: "23d 11 mo. Anno 1636, Thomas Trace, ship Carpenter, referred to Certifficat." "2d of first mo. 1636-7. Tho: Trace, Rec'd for Inhabitant upon a Certificate from diuers of watter Towne. And is to have 5 acres of Land."

He removed in Feby 1637 to Wethersfield where he was chosen juror and deputy and held other posts of honor. There he married in 1641 Mary, widow of Edward Mason. He then removed to Saybrook where seven children were born. His wife died about 1659. Afterward he married Martha Bourne, widow of John Bradfield, and still later Mary Foote, widow of John Stoddard and John Goodrich. He had no issue by his second and third wives. With Thos. Leffingwell and others he relieved Uncas, Sachem of Mohegan with provisions when he was besieged by Pessacus, Sachem of the Naragansetts in 1645.

He was one of the thirty five original proprietors of Norwich in 1660. He was representative from Norwich and Preston in the Legislature at twenty seven sessions from 1662 to 1684. In 1673 he was commissioned lieutenant of the New London County Dragoons, raised to fight the Dutch and Indians. He was made a Justice in 1678 and died at Norwich Nov. 7, 1685.

"Thomas Tracy was well educated for the time in which he lived. He held his full share of public offices, legislative, military and magisterial. He was a gentleman of consequence in the community, a thorough business man and of the very best personal character." (Robinson)

He was a resident of Scituate 1729-32, later of Barnstable (1750) and returned to T. about 1750. He was a soldier in the French and Indian War 1756, attached as clerk, at the age of 59, to Capt. Peter West's Company and reported sick at Fort Edward that year.

Thomas Butler-1676

He was called "Captain" perhaps for service in the militia or as a mariner.

His will was dated 9 Nov. 1727, and was proved 2 Dec. 1732.
