James Oliver Milton-106

"Uncle Jim was the last one born in Pittsburgh. Unlike Ossian, the reliable, Uncle Jim was never satisfied. He was a good farmer, raised good stock and crops and always had Glenn with him, but he traded farms time after time, always making a bad trade. He finally lived in a small house with Glenn and Glenn's wife near Clintonville, Pa., and had nothing. That is a hard thing to write. Sometime after his girls were born, their mother packed up and took them back to Ohio. His daughter, Maggie, called on Mazie and me in the 1940's. She seemed to us like a very nice person. Later I wrote to Mrs. Lola Holdon, daughter of Mrs. Inez Carlyle. Lola answered my letter and sent me her photograph, which shone a very beautiful woman. I wrote again some years later but received no answer. I think Uncle Jim has a number of grandchildren."
-William Ossian Milton, 1962
